This has been a fantastic year for the Metcalfe Ringette Association.
Marnie Kennedy played as part of the U14 Metcalfe Hornets team this year, she is a mighty defenseman! Their team got off to a rocky start but improved with each tournament they entered. They went to the Provincial tournament where Marnie scored her first goal as a defenseman and they had 3 wins 1 loss and a tie. The team went on to win their semi-finals and take on the undefeated first placed team for the gold medal. It was a hard fought game that they eventually lost, but everyone was incredibly happy to be taking home a Provincial silver medal!
Madison Kennedy played for the U16A Metcalfe Hornets ringette team. This team had an amazing year! The team won gold medals at 3 out of 4 regular season tournaments. In January, they were part of a ringette exchange sponsored by the YMCA. They traveled to Calgary to meet and stay with players for the North Western “Nova” Ringette team. While there they played in the Esso Golden Ring tournament which is the largest ringette tournament and had an amazing time. The Nova team then came to Ontario and played in a tournament here and stayed with Metcalfe families. It was the experience of a lifetime that all the girls will cherish.
The U16 A team then went on to win the Provincial tournament in spectacular fashion! They tied for third place and had to have a mini game with the Central Ottawa Ringette team. This game was played Saturday night (after each team had already played 2 games that day). Mini games only last 20 minutes. The other 2 Metcalfe teams that were in the tournament came out to cheer the girls on to victory with a 1-0 win. They then played the semi-finals Sunday morning and moved on to face the first place team. They won gold in overtime 7-6! They were no longer considered Metcalfe Hornets but were now Team Ontario. They went to the Eastern Championships in Oshawa representing the province of Ontario. They were undefeated against the eastern teams (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI, Quebec and Oshawa (Host team). They lost in finals taking home the silver medal.
